The Split Grade Escapade: First Week Woes {Onto a New School}

Hi teaching and blogging friends,

Wow! First week back and I have had some tough news. Due to declining enrollment, I have lost my classroom at my current school. I was all set up and ready to teach as you know, but now everything is packed and ready to be moved to my new school.

No phone call yet. I am waiting to hear where I will be placed. I have no idea of the grade or school. It is a little stressful.

I have 8 years of seniority in the district, so it was pretty shocking to lose my spot at my school.

Staying hopeful, I am sending out good feelings that something wonderful will come from this upset. I will miss my community there.

  2. I am so sorry to hear this Lesley! I think I may have told you that this happened recently at the school I work at/my youngest attends. It's so sad and frustrating to have a team member taken away like this :(

    I hope everything works out! ((hugs))

  5. Oh Lesley that must be devastating! I just can't imagine that happening!?
    I've never heard of such a thing.
    I can imagine the hurt and helplessness you would be feeling though. Big hugs to you and I hope everything works out okay.

  7. Wow! That would be a shock. Here you are all prepared and they throw this at you. That sucks! I hope you end up at a school with a bigger classroom, fewer kids, and have the time of your life!

    Hugs,

  20. I am sorry to read this news. I understand how you are feeling, because I lost my job of 10 years in August 2011. It is tough to start over, but God gives us strength in our most difficult and stressful times. I hope and pray that you will have an even better opportunity soon. Thank you for blogging your beautiful creations for us to enjoy.

  21. Oh you poor dear! I am a retired first grade teacher. I know what it takes to set up for the first day and then to be told to move. I would have been sick. They have no idea what they do to you when they do that kind of stuff to you. My heart goes out to you. What State are you in? I hope you spend the weekend crafting and say the heck to the district. When you move and get in your classroom breath, try to stay clam, and don't rush. It is better for your health.
    Sending Hugs,
    Linda

  22. Lesley - I'm so very sorry to learn the news. I know the volume of work preparing the room and teaching plans and materials. As a creative person, I'd encourage you to look at this "opportunity" as a creative challenge. I found that often helps me when dealing with devastating change.

  25. I also teach at a middle school. Our enrollment is up but they do not have the budget money to hire additional teachers. I teach 6 classes with 165 students. Hope you have good news soon.
